Here's a partial screen shot for Lil Sharpie, showing the number of pageviews (not counting my own) for each post. I took it today, (see how to take a screen shot on a Mac) as a tool for evaluating how how effective my current organization is.
I was surprised to see that the #1 post was "A Peek inside our Hospital Bag." Most of the views are probably from my online peeps, but that was months ago and it's not an easy post to find.
The next most viewed post was "It's All About the Little Things." This showed a few pix from my (almost) finished nursery.
Numbers 3 and 4 were "Week 34 Pregnancy Photos" (with the funny push face) and "Week 1 Amanda Photos." After that, the most popular posts are the weekly pix of my pregnancy or Amanda.
So, does my blog structure make it easy for new readers to go to these posts? Let's look at a screen shot of my blog set-up.
Here's the banner and today's post:
Pros: The overall design is clean and bright. The buttons on the right are big and easy to click on.
Cons: None of my top posts are featured on the top of the page.
Next shot is further down the page:
Pros: My top 3 and 4 posts are visible, as are my labels.
Cons: All this info is waaaaaay down the page. And the About Me field is blank.
There are two main changes that I want to make. First, combine and reduce buttons on the sidebar. All of Amanda's photos can be archived under one button just like my pregnancy photos are. Second, add buttons featuring posts like the hospital bag or the nursery.
This will take extra time, but expect to see organizing updates to the blog over the coming week. You can do the same thing with your blog by simply clicking on your "Stats" tab, then "Posts" and selecting "All Time." Happy blogging!
